Engagement, content and love: key factors in Social Media

Engagement and Content. Key Factors in Social Media

I have been out of posting for a while due to my current job. It does not matter; because all my duties are related with social media and in fact what I am doing everyday is focused in developing strategies and spreading a new advertising agency’s message throughout the web. In a few words: I am applying all the theory I know。

A few weeks ago I read in an article published by Mari Smith that it’s so easy to learn the know-how of online strategies, but it depends on your own to build your online community. She is right: theory is easy to learn, but the real challenge is to apply it into real life. In this case, in the binary life: the online world.

People who are involved in this new business (I say new, because in Spain the most of the online users are still in the prehistoric age of social media, as small business see online communities like new niches for participation, but for them it’s not for sure if investing in becoming ‘social’ is worth) know perfectly the theory but what makes the engine moves is, as it happened in old times, ideas. Social Media is just a new method to communicate: more effective, more accurate and viral, but it’s just that: a method. A way. What it will make a real impact in our audience is our message and, of course, compelling content which attracts our fans and followers. Engagement is not about technology, or being in every social community that appears online. Engagement is about social relations. It’s about love.

Why love? People should love our company. That is the key of engagement. If we know to use social tools to achieve this aim, well, great! But with a poor message and without targeting and categorizing our audience, maybe we will not really engage them.

At this point I am going to start to do so, despite the fact that English is not my native language (please, sorry for the mistakes you could find in this text). But I like challenges and I am in the way. So, go ahead!

By the way, I found this interesting infographic. What do you think? Enjoy it! :D
